possible to have test case steps customize at JIRA description?

i have done customization on new screen for test case creation and workflow/project associated completely.

i wanted to have new field called test steps,

with one row per step,

followings columns each (step no., steps description, expected result, actual result, remarks).

is above achievable by customizing the default JIRA screen from UI or plugin like zephyr needed?

You don't need any specific plugin for this. You can do this using custom field.

Just create a new custom field called test step, it should be a multi-line custom field and choose the wiki-style renderer in field configuration

I have created the custom field and set the filed configuration to use wiki renderer.

But the test steps field appearing at Details.

How can I change it under Description?

Hi @J_D

It is NOT a good idea to create a Jira custom fields in order to manage test cases. Specially if you still want to plan you tests and execute your tests, Jira doesn't have any 'TESTING' concept to support this.

I would suggest you trying some test management plugins like synapseRT to manage your testing activities in Jira.

Currently you can't have custom field below description

The workaround for it is to have separate tab for the test steps.

But Jira doesn't support Test execution and test reporting etc, for that you will need to install a paid plugin.

You can search on marketplace on the available plugins.

I have personally used xray and zephyr for test execution, reporting and creating test plans.

Yup. I realize the paid plugin is better in terms of status and report tracking.

I am agree with @Cheney Ma [Go2Group] that it is not a good idea to use custom filed or any other custom setting in Jira to leverage test management purpose.

For Test Management, I really like QMetry for Jira among the all test management apps which has end to end traceability, Import/Export capabilities and very user-friendly in terms of overall test management purpose.
