Is there a way i could enable multiple reporters to an issue type? This should ideally show up under people section of a request.

Reporter is a single user field
You could create a multiple user customfield - 'Reporters' and use it for your requirements.
It will get displayed in the people section

Only if you update your Workflow or Notification Scheme.

Not when you use @Reporter in the comments. you will have to mention them individually

You can only @ mention users who can see an issue. Make sure they have Browse permissions on the issue in question.
