Sourcetree for Mac (v4.2.17) - "Save" button is disabled when registering an account via API Token.

I am unable to register my account using an API Token in Sourcetree version 4.2.17 on macOS.

The "Save" button remains completely grayed out/disabled, making it impossible to proceed with the registration setup.

Interestingly, this exact same setup and token work perfectly fine on Windows.

What could be the reason for this issue on Mac, and how can I fix it?

Hey guys,

Here's a bug report for this: SRCTREE-8271: Save button remains disabled when registering account with API token
I'd suggest leaving a vote and setting yourself as a watcher to receive updates about any news.

Hi,

Thank you for reporting this — I understand how frustrating it must be when the Save button won't activate.

Based on the behavior described, the Save button is enabled only when all required fields pass validation. For Bitbucket accounts using API Token authentication, please ensure that:

  • The username field contains a valid email address (e.g., user@example.com). Formats like user without the domain will prevent the form from validating — this is a common gotcha, especially since Windows may be more lenient here.

  • The API Token field is not empty.

  • The authentication type is set to API Token.

If any of these fields don't meet the expected format, the Save button will remain disabled without showing an explicit error — which we acknowledge isn't the most helpful UX.

Thank You!

Hello, @Pratap Guvvala

Thank you for your feedback. :)

The same API token is registered successfully in the Windows environment, but on this environment the button does not become active. Because of this, I was unable to find any error code or message that could help identify the cause.

Could you please check the attached screenshot?

It's still not working on Mac. Sourcetree Version 4.2.18.

"Save"-Button is still disabled.

@andrea_theconnective have you tried steps listed here https://community.atlassian.com/forums/Sourcetree-questions/Sourcetree-for-Mac-v4-2-17-quot-Save-quot-button-is-disabled/qaa-p/3256071#M47415

Basically this:

I found out that this problem only occurs when you have set a language other than English.
In my set, I used German. I changed to English, closed Sourcetree, opened Sourcetree and the Save button works for me.

I just read it and it solves the btn problem, but actually Sourcetree says

"We couldn't connect to Bitbucket with your (--email.redacted--) credentials. Check your User Email and try the API Token again."

and I dunno why.

Also tried to get back to Sourcetree 4.2.16 but doesnt work neither.

Hey @허지수 ,

Did you manage to troubleshoot this? Or have you maybe found a workaround?

I did try to find open issues/bugs related to this on JAC, but didn't manage to do so. What you can do is to open a bug/ticket on there and state what you're experiencing.

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback. :)

I apologize for the delayed response, especially since you provided so much valuable feedback.

Although the issue has not been resolved yet, I have left a comment on the JAC bug/ticket for further investigation.

Thank you again for your detailed feedback. It has been greatly appreciated!

Hey @허지수 ,

This is typically the case when you're using some incorrect formatted field in the account setup dialog.
Can you try following these steps: https://community.atlassian.com/forums/Sourcetree-questions/Unsure-how-to-use-the-API-password-with-sourcetree/qaa-p/3184506#M46897?

I don't have Mac, so I cannot test this out 🫤
Interestingly, you're saying the same thing worked on Windows and not here 👀

I think Mac does have something like Keychain Access where you can check stored credentials.

Have you tried using SSH authentication/key instead of API token? You should be able to generate a key within Sourcetree.

Cheers,
Tobi

Hi @Tomislav Tobijas

Thanks for your suggestions.

I tried all of the proposed solutions, but unfortunately none of them resolved the issue.

  • I followed the steps in the article you shared and set up the account again, but I still encountered the same problem.

  • I also checked and cleared the credentials stored in macOS Keychain Access, then tried signing in again, but the issue persisted.

  • I generated an SSH key and tried using SSH authentication instead of an API token, but I experienced the same behavior.

So far, everything works as expected on Windows, but the same account continues to have authentication issues only on macOS.

Do you have any other suggestions or ideas about what I could check next?

Thanks!

@허지수 Unfortunately, I don't have anything else apart from what's already stated here 🫤
