In Advanced Roadmap Plan how do you group by status?

Those new to the Atlassian Community have posted less than three times. Give them a warm welcome!
Grouping by Status would seem to be a basic requirement for plan view in Advanced Roadmaps. How do I do it or how do I request it for a future release?
(I don't consider grouping by Labels an option and I don't have permission to create custom fields in my corporate production instance of Jira.)
