Few questions about Jira and Confluence (Server and Data Center) and Jira Service Management Cloud

Konstantinos Birtachas July 15, 2022

Hello,

currently we have Jira Software Server 8.10.0 and Confluence Server 7.5.2.

We plan to replace/upgrade them both to Data Center editions (with the necessary version updates of course).

In addition, we plan to subscribe for Jira Service Management Cloud.

Our questions:

1. Can the two on-premise applications (Jira Software and Confluence both Data Center) be integrated with the cloud one (Jira Service Management)?

2. If we later decide, can we migrate the Jira Service Management from Cloud to Data Center?

Thanks in advance!

@Konstantinos Birtachas

  1. You can integrate two of them with Cloud at the same time.
  2. A migration is possible (as long as you use classic cloud projects), but non trivial. At the moment, Jira Cloud does not have a way to migrate single projects from Cloud to server. To migrate you'd need to restore your whole cloud instance into a new Jira Data Center instance and then export the project(s) or use something like configuration manager to perform the migration. It wouldn't be simple or fun!

Thanks!

As long as the migration "backwards" from Cloud to Data Center is possible, we are fine. And aware it won't be easy task too :)
