Hi,
I was asked to add 2 custom fields (dev estimate and QA estimate)
I would like those to be of the same type that Jira is using today for the estimate field (where I can enter values like 1d3h), but could not find this type in the custom fields selection. All the types were more like date pickers.
Am I doing something wrong?
Thank you

No, you're not doing anything wrong, or missing anything. The problem here is that the "estimate" field is a "system" field and not a type of field. That means there's no way to add a similar one. The custom field types simply don't provide a field that works the same.
Kah Loun Foong has pointed at the request for Atlassian to create similar fields.

This is an old issue. I am trying to do the same (adding custom field as estimate time) and wondering if something had changed in the last 12 years.
Thanks.

By adding them up. I suspect you need to ask this as proper question instead of on an old thread, and you absolutely need to explain it more - there are no "estimated" custom fields in JIRA, so what are you *actually* trying to add up?

Nice request, I wanted to do something similar but as I know you cannot do this right now, there is not such a field available in JIRa for customization. What you can do is create an integer (have a convention to keep everything in hours) or text field type, then export it as part of the issue and do some extra stuff in Excel to analyze.(planned vs actual for example)

I believe they are text type custom field. They are not special custom field type. As you can see on the html source.
<input class="text short-field" id="timetracking_originalestimate" name="timetracking_originalestimate" type="text" value="4w 4h" /> <span class="aui-form example">(eg. 3w 4d 12h)</span>

Unfortunately I don't think so as Greenhopper is performing some calculation on those being able to add them to show a sprint burndown chart with that.
