Jira Align roadmap presentation Q1 2025

Hi everyone!

We are rapidly approaching Atlassian’s Team ‘25 Conference and wanted to share some exciting Jira Align product updates before we see you all. Due to a busy schedule as we approach Team, we will conduct this quarter’s Jira Align Roadmap Webinar async here on the Atlassian Community. As always, we relied heavily on your feedback to prioritize these improvements, and we’re grateful for engaged customers like you for all the conversations, research sessions, and brainstorming you’ve generously shared with us. We expect subsequent quarters to have live presentation with Q&A.

Jira Align product roadmap updates

Custom room filters (now)

In version 11.9 we introduced multi-select filters for portfolios, solutions, and programs inside of custom room pages. You can use these filters to select up to 10 of these teams and filter the room accordingly.

Improved team hierarchy navigation (soon)

We’re enhancing Jira Align’s navigation experience with a new hierarchical team selector, which provides you with a better way to visualize and navigate through your team structure. The new menu will simplify five options down to one in the top navigation bar. This new Teams menu lets you quickly access recent contexts and saved contexts, and see how your portfolios, solutions, programs, and teams relate to each other.

Audit log archival policy (soon)

To improve the performance of Jira Align, we’re updating our audit logs to automatically archive entries that are older than 13 months. This change will affect the administration audit log, work item audit logs, and queries to audit log API endpoints. While you won’t be able to view entries older than 13 months in the user interface or through API calls, all entries will continue to be retained in database tables. If you need to view audit log data that is older than 13 months, you can use Enterprise Insights to query those entries.

We expect that this change will improve load times on both work item details panels and within audit log pages.

Deep linking improvements (soon)

We continue working to improve the experience when sharing links to a specific Jira Align page and set of filters. We’re updating pages to support “deep linking”, which means a URL shared from another user will take you to the same page they viewed, with the same team context and filters applied. Our first set of improvements are coming soon to the themes grid page, risk ROAM report, and portfolio room.

Support for Atlassian Smart Links (soon)

Have you noticed how when composing a page in Confluence, links to other Confluence pages and Jira work items automatically resolve with a preview of the page/item name? These are known as Smart Links. Soon, links to Jira Align work items will also support this functionality.

When you add a link to a Jira Align, epic, capability, or feature to a Confluence page or other Atlassian experience, the link will be formatted to display the item’s name, with options to view more details.

Jira Align Smart Links can be viewed inline as shown above, or expanded to a card view:

Looking ahead we’ll look into the ability to display a Jira Align grid page through a Smart Link, taking advantage of the full page embed view option.

Atlassian rich-text editor for epics and capabilities (soon)

In version 11.5, we added the Atlassian editor to the Description field of features. The Atlassian editor provides consistency and familiarity across our products when editing the details of work items, and allows rich-text to sync seamlessly between Jira and Jira Align.

In upcoming versions, we’ll be adding this enhancement to epic and capability work item Description fields.

General availability of the OKR hub (now)

As of version 11.10, the OKR hub will enter general availability status, making it the default experience for working with goals and objectives in Jira Align. The old objectives tree page will be removed in the future, no later than the 11.13 release. Watch our release notes for updates on the schedule for removing the legacy experience.

Improved objective details panel (soon)

We’re planning to launch a re-imagined details panel for objectives, making it easier for you to create, edit, and link objectives with other work items. The new panel will contain multiple enhancements, including:

  • A streamlined creation experience

  • Improved information architecture

  • Ability to associate objectives with work items in a different portfolio

The current objective details panel will be removed once we launch the new version and gather feedback. We expect this removal to occur sometime before the 11.13 release. Watch our release notes for updates on this timeline.

First release of the new roadmap (soon)

Jira Align’s new roadmap experience is coming soon!

To ensure we’re building the right solution for your needs, we’ll use a phased approach to rolling the new version out to your environments. Each of these phases will last between 1-3 release cycles, depending on adoption and feedback.

First, the updated roadmap will be available in your sandbox environments, with a base set of features. Use this time to take a spin through the new look and feel, and let us know what capabilities you’d like to see in the production version.

Next, the new roadmap will be available in production, with additional fast-follow functionality added. The original roadmaps page will continue to be available. Admins will be able to toggle the new experience on or off, ensuring your users and processes have the time needed to be ready.

Finally, once we confirm the new experience meets your needs, we’ll set a timeline to remove the original roadmaps page.

OAuth 2.0 support for Atlassian API tokens with Jira Align API (soon)

We’re working to enhance the security of the Jira Align API by building support for OAuth 2.0 when using Atlassian API tokens for authentication.

You can currently use Atlassian API tokens to connect to the Jira Align API by enabling Atlassian Guard as your authentication method. We strongly recommend making the switch to this authentication method and Atlassian tokens, as they provide a robust set of security and administrative features for user access.

Note that support for API tokens provided by Jira Align, when using Atlassian Guard, is scheduled to end with version 11.12. See our previous announcement for more details.

Embedding of Atlassian Analytics dashboards in Jira Align (soon)

The ability to embed Atlassian Analytics dashboards within the External Reports functionality of Jira Align is just around the corner! This integration will enable seamless access to and interaction with your dashboards directly within Jira Align, significantly boosting your workflow efficiency. With this new capability, you'll gain deeper insights and make data-driven decisions more effectively, all within your familiar Jira Align environment.

Performance improvements with static asset caching (now)

In January, we introduced static asset caching, which reduced overall page load times by as much as 0.5 seconds.

Data residency in the United Kingdom (now)

In addition to the United States, Germany, and Australia, we now offer data residency in the United Kingdom. This allows you to specify where your content and data are hosted, ensuring your product data is exclusively stored within a region you trust. It also helps meet company and regulatory requirements.

Continuous deployments for bug fix releases (now)

Continuous deployments have officially arrived with Jira Align version 11.8, enabling more frequent and efficient delivery of bug fixes and critical updates. This enhancement ensures that users receive the latest fixes as soon as they are ready, without any downtime during updates. You can stay informed about resolved issues by watching relevant Jira issues and checking our release notes each week. For more details, review our full announcement.
