Using a Data Center Plugin License for a Server Installation

With server EOL. We've decided to stick with server rather than moving to cloud as I've been hearing about too many issues since the push from other users and IT guys doing migrations.

We tried to pick up all the plug ins we thought we'd need before migrating but I came across one that fits with a direction we are moving in a particular documentation space.

I installed the plug in and used a trial license for Data Center which worked to test out a free trial - this was a tip from the plug ins support team.

The question: If I purchase a full Data Center license will it work? I just need the app not looking at support. Has anyone tried and had success. I know the default answer is likely no but given the trial license worked maybe it will work with a full license.

Hi @Anthony A

Overall everything depends on app that you are installing but I think that this combination should work in practice.

Data Center approved apps are prepared to match clustered environment but overall moving from Server to Data Center (non-clustered) is very easy 5 min task and does not require any special changes. So it means that basically everything is working as on Server. Officially also it is recommended (when migrating to DC from Server) to migrate apps first so it is also a proof of that nothing really should break, but as always if you are using a trial version it is the time to check and test everything. Would be good also to simply ask the vendor :)

You can read more about DC licenses here

Overall of course if Cloud for you was not an option to think about moving to DC (non-clustered).

Thanks for the response.

Interestingly I have a server version of the app using a DC trial license, per the vendors suggestion. I did ask them specifically about the DC license on server and they suggested I go to Atlassian.

There is a warning (below)DC license on server app.png

App seems to be fully functional - I will reach back out to the vendor and see if there is anything further they can give me.

My guess it will work. My concern is that Atlassian has something built in there that disables it after a prolonged period of the mismatch.
