XML Site and Space Export — End of Life in Confluence Cloud

We're writing to let you know that XML Site Export and XML Space Export in Confluence Cloud are reaching End of Life (EOL).

What's happening and when

Date	What happens
Jun 1, 2026	EOL announced. No change to the product yet. You have 6 months to transition.
Dec 1, 2026	XML export reaches EOL. The feature continues to work, but Atlassian will no longer fix bugs, accept support tickets, or provide SLAs for it.

What this means for you

From December 1, 2026:

• XML Site Export and XML Space Export continue to work — they are not being removed

• Atlassian will no longer support these features — no bug fixes, no support tickets, no SLAs

• You use XML export at your own risk

What's NOT changing

• CSV Site Export and CSV Space Export — fully supported, unaffected, and our recommended alternative

• All other Confluence Cloud backup and export functionality remains unchanged

What should I do?

We recommend switching to CSV export before December 1, 2026. CSV export covers the same use cases and is available on all plans (Free, Standard, Premium, Enterprise).

The switch is straightforward — it's the same UI, just a different format:

• Site Backup: Go to Confluence Settings → Backup Manager → select CSV format

• Space Export: Go to Space Settings → Export → select CSV format

Why are we doing this?

XML export is a legacy format that is rarely used and costly to maintain. CSV export provides equivalent functionality with better long-term support. This change allows us to focus our investment on features that serve the majority of customers better.

Known limitations

There is one scenario where CSV export cannot replace XML: Cloud to Data Center migration (e.g. due to a company merger), where the Data Center site restore only accepts XML. If this applies to you, please contact Atlassian Support to discuss your options.
