Bitbucket Merge Queues is now generally available

We launched merge queues in open beta earlier this year, and your feedback has helped us refine reliability and polish the experience. Today, merge queues is generally available for all Standard and Premium Bitbucket Cloud workspaces.

Merge queues automatically sequences, validates, and merges pull requests against the latest target-branch state — no extra scripts, plugins, or manual rebases. Developers add their pull request to the queue and move on while Bitbucket handles the rest.

Getting started

Your workspace must be on a Standard or Premium plan with Pipelines enabled.

  1. Open the Merge queues tab in Repository settings → Workflow.

  2. Configure a merge queue for your target branch along with a merge-queues pipeline in bitbucket-pipelines.yml.

  3. All pull requests targeting that branch will now show Add to merge queue.

This is a really useful addition for teams that want to keep their main branches stable without spending time on constant rebasing and merge conflict management. Automating the validation and merge process can save developers a lot of effort and help maintain a smoother workflow. It’s similar to how well-designed platforms focus on reducing friction and improving the user experience — something I appreciate when exploring sites like https://alexanderscasino.com/. Looking forward to seeing how merge queues improve collaboration in larger development teams.
