Hi Atlassian community!

Exciting news for all teams using Confluence Cloud: We have just introduced a beta for team based permissions in Confluence! This new feature allows you to manage space and content access using Atlassian Teams, making collaboration and permission management much simpler for people working together.

🔗 📣 Beta: Introducing teams to Confluence permissions

Why this matters for teams:

  • Assign permissions directly to your Atlassian Team, no more juggling individual users!

  • Streamline onboarding and off boarding as team membership changes.

  • Ensure the right people always have the right access.

How to get involved:

  • Check out the beta details and join in the post above.

  • Try out team-based permissions in your Confluence.

  • Share your feedback and questions.

Let’s make teamwork in Confluence even better. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Cheers!

This sounds very interesting.
It'll be a great step towards helping Space Owners/Admins know who actually has access to their Spaces.

Follow up questions:

Will this be something we admins can disable until we get better controls over who can create Teams and where Teams will be visible?
I believe it will only be a matter of time before abandoned and unmaintained Teams litter the Confluence Space permissions, or someone adds a Team they believe is the correct one but it consists of people who only work in Jira (or something else that isn't Confluence).

Thanks for the feedback, Rune! We're building admin controls to enable you to allow all teams or only verified teams for permissions. Admin controls won't be available yet at the start of the Beta, but will be complete before general availability. With them you would be able to ensure that only your trusted teams are used for permissions in Confluence. Keep an eye out for that!

Also, in the case where an abandoned team still holds space-level access, you'll be able to easily remove any space-level access that team holds with the existing bulk add/remove from all spaces functionality. Simply search what spaces the team has access to with User access and bulk remove their access with bulk space removal.
