While using the checklist feature in Trello is there any way to edit the field(add addtl info)

Example - 

Once a checklist item has been entered - can a bullet point be added under it to provide status or addtl information?

If you click on the checklist item you can edit the text, but you can't make an item multiple lines (add a bullet point below). One way that I add additional information before I'm ready to complete the item is by typing the additional information in backticks, which makes it stand out from the rest of the checklist item text.
