Dear community,

I got some questions regarding the regular functions of Trello. Unfortunately, I saw there is no simple phone support of Trello.

  1. Some cards in the overview turn from an intense black to a grey, so that I cannot read it properly anymore. Not only the title turns grey but also the due date, included members, label and so on the entire unfolded card. How can I prevent this and what is the reason?
  2. I am the admin of the boards. On one board I work with a handyman and cleaning lady together. Both are members on the board an they can edit it in general.
    • a) Can I lock the moving, archiving and editing of specific info-cards? The board should be interactive, only the editing
    • b) If I have information in info card XY only for the handyman, can I hide it for the cleaning lady? Global question: Can I create cards on a board with 3 members, which can be only seen/opened by 2 members?
  3. I would like to use Trello for nearly everything. How can I create an inventory list in the best way possible? (cleaning material, construction work material)? I thought about integrations of other programs and so on?
  4. Is there a possibility of coloring not only cards but also lists?
  5. On one board I have different projects. Each project should has a similar info-card. There are 30 projects. I created a template card and copied it to each project. The information in these cards are put in the card's description. Now, I would like to change little things in all cards, which always costs a lot of time to change it then in all info-cards of the thirty projects. Is there any possibility to change it for example in a global template card and it is automatically changed in all cards?

Thank you for your help.

Hi Hendrik,

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

You're right, we here at Trello don't have phone support, but I'd be glad to answer your questions 🙂

1. This behavior you're describing doesn't seem expected. Am I right to assume you use Trello in a browser? If so, which browser are you using, and are there any extensions enabled?

To troubleshoot this problem, I'd suggest you go through the instructions in this article first: https://support.atlassian.com/trello/docs/troubleshooting-browser-issues-with-trello/

2. a) You can change those members' roles to Observer on your board. This would allow them to view the board and the cards in it, download card attachments, comment and vote on cards, and export the board, but they won't be able to edit cards, upload card attachments, or tick the box on a checklist item.

More information about this member type: https://support.atlassian.com/trello/docs/adding-observers-to-boards/

b) There isn't currently a feature like that, but I'd suggest you create separate boards, add the information relevant to specific users only, and add those users as board members.

3. You can either create a new board and have a list with a card for each specific item. Otherwise, using checklists would be very handy in your case: https://support.atlassian.com/trello/docs/adding-checklists-to-cards/

4. Right now, that feature isn’t available within Trello, but we actually have it as an open feature request for the product team to consider! I'll add you as an official "+1" in support of this.

5. I'm afraid there isn't an easy way to do this, especially if it concerns the card description. You can try using Automation to see if it helps you achieve your goal: create a card button to update card description, but you'll have to set up a rule beforehand and click the button on each specific card; think of a specific trigger to enable an action of card description update. If you haven't used Automation before, I'd suggest looking through these resources first:

I've also heard that some users take advantage of some Power-Ups to perform bulk actions, but I won't be able to endorse any Power-Up as most of them are created by third-party companies. Thus, we don't have much insight into how they work. You can check some available options at https://trello.com/power-ups/search?q=bulk%20actions.

If you're comfortable using API, you can use Trello REST API to perform bulk updates: https://developer.atlassian.com/cloud/trello

Hope this information helps!
