Lag and index.lock errors Edited

Since the recent updates, my sourcetree (Mac) has been getting painfully slow (e.g. esp when staging and unstaging files). And I've been getting frequent index.lock exists errors, almost everytime i perform an action. I have to try a few times for it to work or remove the lock file manually.

Is this a known issue or is there a fix to this?

I had this issue for a little while now (1-2 updates back maybe) to the point Sourcetree is not usable anymore and I switched back to the CLI. It happens for different projects with different repositories; it complains about another git process on the same repo; while git in the terminal is perfectly happy adding, committing, pushing…

seems to be a known bug dating back from may 2016

try this:

 

  • Go into Preferences -> General and uncheck "Refresh automatically when files change'
  • When you actually want to refresh hit Command-R to trigger the refresh
