Authentication error trying to access github account on a Mac using SourceTree v2.5.2(111)

I am unable to connect ST 2.5.2b (111) on my Mac (OS Sierra) to my Github account. It keeps saying Authentication error, yet I use the same exact authentication for login in a Chrome web browser and it works just fine.

I've read the other thread suggesting to use generating an Access Token to use for the password but that fails even worse. It doesn't get past the login form submit on that one.

It appears that this topic has been around for 5-7 years now and Atlassian still hasn't cured an authentication problem?

I gave up trying. I switched to using HTTPS authentication and storing the login in my keychain and it works fine. First access prompts for the username and password but make sure the checkbox to store it in your keychain is checked. Then it will remember it for each Push to github.

SourceTree Mac SSH key storageis not seeming to be compatible with github.com.
