Documentation and programming in a single SAS file

I wanted to ask is there a way of documenting a SAS file other than the comments so that the final documentation structure resembles that of a .md file?

My team needs to have a complete understanding of the codes we share. There are around 20 SAS program files and we need to document them. Apart from putting the comments in the SAS file, is there some other way that we document so that the same program file can be used for coding and documentation.

I tried creating a .md file but that is different from a .sas file?
