What is the limitation of automation for e-mail sending?

Janosik, Juraj July 8, 2022

Hello,

I have setup automation that is sending emails to users based on status change. I have found that in free subscription there is limit to 100 emails trough automation per 24h. I have now started the free trial for 14 days to test out the limits in standard version before we decide to buy, but I am still being limited. Is this limit applied also to trial? Or standard version has the same limitation?

Thank you

Juraj

Hi @Janosik, Juraj -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Please take a look at these sources for Atlassian information on plan levels and specifics about automation service limits:

https://support.atlassian.com/jira-cloud-administration/docs/explore-jira-cloud-plans/

https://support.atlassian.com/cloud-automation/docs/automation-service-limits/

To help monitor these, I recommend creating at least one global scope rule which is triggered on SLA breaches to monitor limits/usage: https://support.atlassian.com/cloud-automation/docs/jira-automation-triggers/#SLA-threshold-breached

Kind regards,
Bill

Hi @Janosik, Juraj and welcome to the community!

The limit of 100 emails in 24 hours only applies to the Free edition of Jira Cloud. After changing to Standard, are you still seeing the same error message in the audit logs of your automation rule and the execution status THROTTLED?

Cheers,

Alex

Yes so for testing I switched to free standard trial, confirmed that it is in the subscription as that, but I am still getting the same error.

com.codebarrel.automation.component.outgoing.email.action.global.error.limit

Sometimes if I wait an hour, it will actually allow me to send another one, but it is probably that one of those 100 were again available after 24 hours.

It makes sense since it considers a 24h period. Perhaps you could give a full day with the Standard plan it would give time to clear up the site's mail usage limit.

Does it mean that after that it should have no limitation since I switched to the standard version?

That's my understanding. Are you still getting the same error message even after changing to the standard plan?

Not now, but I was not sending so many automated emails recently.
