Is there a way to turn off text parsing in comments and description by default?

Ben Fredrickson May 29, 2012

At my company people post code and log file info to the description and comment section of a JIRA. These comments get parsed and tabs get turned into a list, smiley faces get inserted, etc. If people were better they would place tags around these items, but they don't. Is there a way for me as the viewer to turn off this parsing and just display the raw text, by default would be best? Thanks, ~Ben

They aren't parsed at all. They are being rendered. The data behind them is the same.

All you need to do is go into the field configuration for the project/issuetype and look for the fields doing this, you'll find a link to "renderer" which you can switch to plain text.
