Delete (or modify) a user

Hi,

We need to modify a user in our JIRA domain. There is a user that has gone of our company and another one is occuping his role. In order to do the tranfer as easy as possible, we've tried to modify the old user with a new name, avatar and email. But JIRA sais that this operation is impossible because the old user has created issues, published comments, etc. How can we solve this? Now we have created another one, but we need to delete all this information in order to don't take the old user in our company user accountance.

Thank you.

You lose information if you delete users.

You should use the "deactivate" function first, then remove the user from all groups and roles. I'd also recommend changing their email address to a null one, and adding something to their display name to say they're not a valid user any more.

The deactivation will make their account dormant - won't be offerred as an assignee and most importantly, won't count toward your licence count
