We need direct links to local resource like \\PC1\Resource\ but they don't work in Jira

Вадим Голубев December 10, 2021

Good day, please help us.

We need direct links to local resources in the task description, without them, further work with the product will be impossible, what can you offer ?

It works in Trello !

Do not offer the use of cloud services, because we are a design organization, we store very large 3D models and it is impossible to constantly upload them to the cloud.

Thanks @Вадим Голубев !
A bit more about why this is happening: https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/can-t-link-to-local-files-from-within-jira-216958260.html. Hope the workaround can work for you.

This is completely wrong !

The problem is not with browsers, but that JIRA doesn't recognize data type file:///

At the same time, TRELLO recognizes without problems

Browser security issue like Сhrome can be easily solved by installing an additional extension:

It is possible to do something to make the JIRA recognize the data type file:///

Because of this, we have big problems with further integration and use of JIRA throughout the our company.

Hi @Вадим Голубев ,

The Jira markup renderer will not render file:// protocol links as actual HTML links for security reasons. Since web browsers disable them too for the same security reasons that is normally not a problem that users would encounter. There are no plans to change this behaviour at the moment. As a note, Trello doesn't use all the same software services as Jira, hence why the behaviour differs.

We also do not recommend using extensions that disable web browser security features.

The listed work arounds in the knowledge base article @Ron Levy listed are all valid options that you can investigate and choose what fits best for your company's use case.

I understand that is not the answer you were looking for, but I hope that still helps.

Thank you, the answer is clear.

We will try to organize a local FTP server with some special settings.
