Better together: Jira Work Management is staying included with Jira

Were you at Unleash in February? If you were, you might remember the news that Jira Work Management would be included with Jira Software until March 2024.

Great news: we’ve heard your feedback and removed the March 2024 end date. Jira Work Management will continue to be included with every Jira Software and Jira Service Management license — just like it is today. 🎉

If you’ve got multiple different project management tools driving up costs and admin work while also preventing cross-team visibility, switch to Jira Work Management.

When everyone’s on the right Jira, teams can choose how to customize their tools without saying goodbye to collaboration. The best of both worlds — flexibility and visibility — is possible.

Ready to get started? Create a project and choose from over 20 templates designed for your teams on Jira Work Management.

💡 Looking to migrate from other tools? Import with a CSV and stay tuned for the new Asana and Monday importers.

Hi @Abby Stiris

That's great news!

Removing the March 2024 deadline means that there will be a new deadline at some point, or that JWM will be included with Jira Software forever?

Thanks for the clarification.

Cheers,

David

Same question. Is this included permanently, or will there be a new date that we would have to start paying?

Walter Urrejola October 5, 2023

we never used JWM for the same reason, but I am still afraid that atlassian will charge it again in the future, so is it possible to use it without fear that they will start charging it?

my apologize for the naive question: but are there features in JIRA Work that are missing from JIRA Software? I was considering JIRA Work as a subset/core of JIRA Software, and did not anticipate we might be loosing some features in March !

Will a user's access to JWM still have to be managed under a separate product access setting or will JWM go away and fall under the Jira one?  Continuing to have 2 separate licenses for it is a bit confusing.

Hi everyone! We currently don't have any plans to add a new end date. JWM will continue to be included just like it is now. Thanks for your feedback — I'm sharing it with the team!

Hi @Dąbrowski Damian you have Jira Work Management included with your Jira Software Cloud license. To get started, all you need to do is create a new project using a work management template. Check out this guide to learn more! https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/work-management/product-guide/jwm-vs-jsw

Hi @Abby Stiris,

thank you for the news, I really appreciate it.

I just got some question about giving our teams access for JWM though they don't need Jira Software nor Jira Service Management. Right now, the accessability is controlled by giving the user a Jira Software licence.

If we do a roll out of JWM for HR, Marketing, etc, the only solution is giving them access to either Jira Software or Jira Service Management. And iff we use both products as premium licences, JWM will be expensive in ways I never imagined. Additionally, there's is no product access functionality in Atlassian Administration right now.

Does the Atlassian Team has a Feature Map to tackle these issues?

Thanks in advance!

This is great news! I recently converted all our JWM projects to JSW project because we didn't want to pay additionally for JWM.

This means I can now allow teams to have JWM projects again without worrying about the extra cost down the line 🎉

I missed this, I'm glad to hear about the reversal, but the original intent on top of other changes really feels like Atlassian throwing away the values it was built on to make the most money possible. Fair pricing and not requiring customers to buy more than they need was a huge part of the culture, and made Jira, and the ecosystem great. Now it's both a push to premium subscriptions and more products. I can't feel relieved by this decision being rolled back because it was such a mindboggling one to make in the first place.

@GBE Turns out not to be a naive question at all. JWM projects have features like calendars and forms (there may be others) which are not available to Jira Software projects, which is really unfortunate.

Stephanie Ong October 26, 2023

Jira Work Management (JWM) is well-suited for non-development teams like HR, Finance, and Operations that primarily require it for tracking tasks and project management. Notably, JWM licenses are considerably more cost-effective compared to Jira Software licenses.

If we consider purchasing licenses with 40% of users on JWM and 60% on Jira Software, we can explore how this combination would function in practice.

Hi @Abby Stiris , we are using JWM as a part of JSW. I would like to add JWM as a product and cancel our JSW subscription. Will our current JWM projects that exist as part of JSW automatically be transferred to the new JWM subscription? In short, do I need to worry that anything will be deleted or lost in the process?

hello @Abby Stiris, so that means we no longer need to purchase the JWM subscription as it is now integrated to JSM, correct?

and the pricing for JSM will be revised?
