find the unused workflow, workflow schemes and screens, Screen schemes in Jira

RichardA June 10, 2022

Hi,

Kindly let me know if we have any way to find the workflows/screens etc. that are not used in any projects so that those can be deleted.

Is there any way to first find the list of In-active workflows and screen. Later it can be removed once got approval for deletion.

Need script to find the Unused Workflows, Workflow schemes, Screens, Screen schemes but not to delete directly.

Thanks in advance.

Hi RichardA,

if you have installed the script runner plugin this page can be interesting:

Writing a script to list these is not particularly easy, and another script for doing it is another level more hard.

Obviously, automating deletion would be risky - you might delete something one of your admins still needed as a backup.

The best approach to this is "just get a human to do it".  One of the "Best practices for Jira" I always tell people is to automate the creation of a monthly task for your Jira admins.  Once a month, get them to spend half an hour clicking on all the scheme lists, dropping to the bottom of them, using the "expand" option to see the inactive/unused ones and then deleting as many as possible.

If you have not been doing that sort of housekeeping, then you're likely to find your first run is going to be quite large, but it's still quicker than trying to report on it first - whatever the results of your reporting, your admins are still going to have to go into each "inactive" list and click through the deletes.
