How to create automation to copy "Labels" when there is a change in the Epic/Parent "Labels" field

Going back to the post by Bill Sheboy on Jun 02, 2022:

I can't get the code automation to work properly on Labels, i.e. the Labels field is not updating if there's a change in the Epic. Could you advise in on what I might be doing wrong?

Hi @Zsofia Rozsa ,

Good day,

The following automation we've implemented is successfully changing the labels of issues related to the epic whenever the labels field value of the parent epic is modified.

I hope this update is helpful to you, let me know if you encounter any issues or have any questions.

Regards,

Geethanjali

Geethanjali,

I'm having a hard time to getting this to work on Subtask items though - it's not updating based on the parent Labels. Thoughts?

If you click the three dots on the the right side of the label field, three options will be displayed.AC21.PNG

Select the Copy Option>Select copy from trigger issue value in copy options.

@Zsofia Rozsa ,

Welcome to Atlassian Community! I'll try to assist you with your inquiry.

Let me see if I have understood your question properly. So, your objective is to sync all label values from the Epic to its child issues. For example, if a label is added into the Epic, you'll cascade the labels to all issues related to the epic that was updated. Similarly, if a label was deleted, it will be deleted on all issues related to the updated epic.

Is this the goal you're trying to achieve?

Cheers,

Francis
