Email Post Function with 2 tickets

Sharone Shani June 17, 2021

Hi Atlassians!

I have 2 tickets (A, B). Ticket B contains a Jira-user custom field.

When ticket A moves to a certain status, I want to send an email (using a post-function) to the user listed in ticket B.

How do I do that?  keep in mind I do not have any of the scripting plugins. :)

Thanks for the assistance.

The short answer is that you cannot. Without those scripting functions or automation application you can achieve this out of the box. You could manually add the user as a watcher to the other ticket which would make them aware of the status change. However I’m pretty sure that’s not your goal and you don’t want that user associated with ticket A.

Thanks. Much appreciated. I didn't think there was a way.

Jira is a little deceptive, as it does offer up some custom field name "connections" to the other ticket making you think it can be done, but no.

We'll have to re-think and go with a different approach.
