Is it true that Confluence provides no way to authenticate using a token. Username and password only? At least not without extra add-on?
How it is possible that this is still not part of standard Confluence?
Only with Confluence Cloud you can authenticate using tokens, with Confluence Server you need username and password. You can read Confluence Cloud API-Tokens y Confluence Server Rest API
