why does Confluence show 404 page for existing pages?

When a user tries to access an existing page for which he has no access rights the 404 page is shown. Why is this?

There  should rather be a message, that the user has no access to the page.

This has been reported as a bug in our system, and you're welcome to watch it for updates:

That can happen with proxies, poorly configured web-servers or core installation files with the incorrect permissions set.  There's a standard "you can't see this page because it's deleted or you don't have permission" built into Confluence, but users will get a 404 if it can't be served up by Confluence.  What url is showing when someone lands on this, and how does it compare to your base url in Confluence?

we uses confluence cloud.

I expect a 401 instead of 404 if user has no access to the page.
