email notification on every update in Confluence

Hi

Is there a way for confluence administrator to get email notification on ANY update on confluence pages, blogs or comments ? I want to be able to get notification even if update it done in restricted (no read permissions) space. I hope there might be a plugin or some other way letting admin do this.

You can watch the spaces, but if the user select not to notify watchers, then you would not get the update notification.

Another option would be to follow all of your editors, and I think that you might actually get notified for those even if the user select not to notify watchers.

Watching space is not an option because if space is restricted I can not watch it. Can you elaborate on "follow all your editors". Can I do it for restricted spaces (admin user does not have read permission)

An administrator should have access even if it is restricted. As for following users if you go to the people directory and look up a user when you hover over the user picture a dialog box pops up showing you info about the user. At the bottom is a follow button. This means that you will receive notice whenever that user makes a page edit regardless whether you watch that page/space or not. You also need to make sure that your admin's email settings are set to "Subscribe to network". To change the option go to Profile ->Settings -> Email. Or use the below url. Just change {yourwikiserrver} to your server name. http://{yourwikiserver}/users/viewmyemailsettings.action

I tested watching space with private page in it. I also was following the guy who did a change on the private page and I did not receive any notification. Looking at Atlassian doc notification only sent for those pages you are allowed to see: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Subscribing+to+Email+Notifications+of+Updates+to+Confluence+Content

Like I said system admins should be able to get into a space even if they have not been granted privileges to the space. I have tested this on my side by creating a space and only assigning access to one user that is not my account (which is a system admin). I then followed that user and had that user make a change and I got an email for it even though my account is not assigned explicit access to the space. By chance are you using a self hosted Confluence or the OnDemand version?

We are using self hosted Confluence. Is there a configuration where I need to enable notification for the updates done by the people I am following ?

If you go to your user profile -> settings -> email. On that page there is a checkbox called Subscribe to network. That needs to be checked.

I have this checkbox checked in my profile but still not getting notifications from closed page updates (I do get notification from opened page updates). And even if it would work I would have to monitor all new users and add them to the list of people I follow which is hardly manageable with over 1000 users. Is there any other way to get notification about ANY change in confluence content ?

What do you mean by "closed page updates" and "opened page updates"?

Sorry I meant Closed page - page is only readable to author Open page - page is readable to everybody

Ah ... so you also have page restrictions on pages. Yeah, I think that even for admins page restrictions come into effect. They can easily add themselves into the restriction, but until that happens they are restricted. For pages that are not restricted admins should get notification. For restricted pages you are correct they won't get notified. I don't know any plugins to get around this.
