SQL Server 2017 support for Confluence 6.6

joe bednarz December 17, 2019

We have plans to upgrade to Confluence 7.x using SQL Server, and are currently on version 6.6 using PostgreSQL.

Question about the database support.  On the new servers, we are going to migrate to SQL Server and test the upgrade/migration.  However, we noticed that Confluence 6.6 does not show support for SQL Server 2017, so we are trying to "skip" a step.

We want to use Confluence 7.x with SQL Server 2017 - do we need to migration ver 6.6 to SQL 2014 and then upgrade both database and Confluence, or can we go use ver 6.6 with SQL 2017 and just upgrade Confluence?

Hi @joe bednarz ,

in your case I would first upgrade to Confluence 7 and then migrate to SQL Server. As you said, since Confluence 6 does not support SQL Server 2017 it would probably fail if you tried to perform both actions at the same time.

Let me know if this helps,
