When I try to paste rows/columns from an excel sheet, it automatically creates a table. So I cannot really reproduce the issue, one suggestion I have though is to create an empty table in confluence first and then try to paste your data inside that table. You only need to create 1 cell in confluence for it to work. I attached some images below which describe what I mean.
