Manage Confluence space access in bulk

Hi 👋 team, Kristen here, PM on Confluence Permissions.

We are excited to announce that now, admins will be able to Manage space access in bulk.

Admins will be able to add a user or group to all spaces on a site (or remove them from all spaces) in one bulk action. This can be done for all spaces on the site, all spaces except personal spaces, or all personal spaces.

Currently, admins have to go to each Space, one-by-one, in order to make the appropriate access changes. The team is very excited to save time for our administrators with this launch!

Navigate to Space permissions, and you'll see the ability to 'Add people to all spaces.'

The team is aware there are many more bulk access changes that could be impactful for admins. Please let us know what bulk permissions management use cases are important to you and your organization. We’ll be :slack-eyes-back-and-forth: at comments!

All the best,

Kristen, Deb, and the Confluence Permissions team

Great news! :-)

As a suggestion, it would be awesome if the bulk change could be done for selected spaces as well, in addition to adding to or removing from all spaces.

Great addition.

A feature suggestion is to use the same permission scheme setup for spaces as JIRA is doing for projects. And also create a similar API, so my python scripts can be used on confluence too.

So it might be worth putting that this is only available to premium subscribers!

Is this available to Confluence Standard users? If not, I'm beginning to worder why we pay Atlassian so much already for Standard and watch as almost every feature added in the last year is either Enterprise only or crippled on Standard.

We have Confluence Standard and this feature is available for us. So finally a new feature for standard users! :-)

We have confluence standard and do not see this at all? So @Kristen Waters can you confirm if this available to standard users or only if they have the Access Subscription?

I would also like to see allowing bulk changes to a subset of spaces.

Important note: this feature is available to standard, premium and enterprise. We are currently rolling out this functionality, and you will see it in the coming weeks. If you your site has enabled release tracks, please note this process takes longer than continuous release process.

Our requirements (and those we have seen with clients) include:

As a site administrator,

I want to be able to view and manage space permissions and page restrictions from a single screen,

So that when restructuring spaces and page trees I can make changes quickly and in bulk. without having to visit every space and page to ensure that the permissions are correct.

As a site administrator,

I need to be able review and change space permissions and page restrictions across the site,

So that when new groups need to be added or groups need to be removed, they can be changed in a single location

Yes! It's about time this feature is released! The related issue https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-1053 exists for more than 20 years now and this requests is one of the most important ones for administrators especially because doing this via API requires scripting which shouldn't be necessary for such an option.

I agree, that add or removing user/groups to selected spaces should be the next improvement.

@Kristen Waters thanks for this publish! I wish I had read it before the PI session yesterday, but the context is great now that I have the background.

This feature is not useful, however, adding to Selected Spaces would be useful.

Hi,

Does this feature cover archived spaces?

We find some archived spaces permission not updated by it.

Is there any way we can have like a snapshot of which spaces had which group at certain points in time? So that e.g. if someone makes a bulk change by mistake or it turns out that not all agree with it, it could later be reverted?
