Hi,

We have Bitbucket server with commercial license hosted on Windows server platform. Few months ago we came to know that Atlassian has announced End-of-life for Bitbucket on Windows and we were advised through this link to either migrate our Bitbucket instance to Linux or cloud. So we were planning to migrate our server to Linux since our license is up for renewal in February 2024. But now when I visit Atlassian website I could see that Bitbucket server is getting scrapped as a whole irrespective of Windows or Linux platform and that we should either migrate to Datacenter or cloud. Could you please confirm whether my understanding is correct and is there any way we can continue using Bitbucket server on Linux after February 2024 ?

Thanks,

Ajay

Hi @ajaychandar annamlai ,

Please go ahead with your bitbucket environment migration form Windows to Linux . What need to be done is you need to replace the Server License with datacenter License and you migration is done also you will have the Capability which come with Datacenter license which you can start using .

Hope this answers your query .

I completely agree with the gentlemen who posted here before.

Migrate to linux, whether it's your own server or somewhere in the cloud (AWS EC2 for example)

I wanted to add that your server license is perpetual (datacenter licenses are not). You can use it indefinitely if you stick to the Bitbucket server version that you licensed, i.e. the release date of the server version installed is before or on the license end-date. You cannot upgrade to a Bitbucket server version that's released after your license end-date.

Good luck and let us know if you need any more help!

Cheers, Ulrich

You should:

  1. first migrate to Linux otherwise you won't be able to use new Bitbucket versions (Windows is not supported any longer as server-side OS)
  2. then use a Data Center license (Server as deployment type is deprecated, it will be replaced by Data Center)

Eventually, you should considering moving to Bitbucket Cloud, but that is totally different service. Different features under the same name. But if you could do that, then it replaces both steps above and you have a Bitbucket instance which will be supported "forever".
