Manual assignee in JIRA not showing in JIRA Portfolio

I've used JIRA Portfolio (Cloud) to setup the first few sprints for multiple teams.  

It automatically assigned some issues to different team members, but I wanted to override some of those in the JIRA sprints, and assign to specific people.

I can see those stories assigned to the correct people on the JIRA side, but looking back in JIRA Portfolio, they are still auto-assigned to the wrong people.

I thought Portfolio would pick up the manual assignment, but it's not.

By design?  Bug?   Seems important that they'd need to stay in sync, since my understanding of Portfolio is that team assignment is a "suggestion", and can be refined manually in JIRA.
