How to hide/show specific customfields based on slection of another customfield value.

is it possible in jira or not?

If you are looking for a 2 level cascading, yes. it is possible out of the box. If you are looking at other dependencies between fields, you are looking at a plugin.

Have a look at Behaviors plugin to do that.

If it involves text fields etc, be aware that JIRA 5.1 has inline editing and that may have an impact. Jamie might have more info on that!
