Deleting users

We'd like to delete ex-users, but we can't do that if they'd edited or commented on anything.

We'd also like to either re-assign their pages to someone else, or at least be able to show that the content was created by someone who is no longer a user.

Is it possible to do either of these things?

Hi Mick,

What a lot of people do is either disable former users (http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Removing+or+Deactivating+a+User) or remove them from all Confluence groups that have the "Can Use" permission (confluence-users, etc.) and create a new "former-users" group and add them to that. With either of these approaches the former users are locked out of Confluence and do not count towards your user license count, but you don't have to look at messy procedures to re-assign content.

To visibly mark them as former users you should be able to do this via Browse -> Confluence Admin -> Manage Users and edit their name. If you're using LDAP and are unable to edit user details in Confluence do your policies allow you to change their name in LDAP to something like "Joe Bloggs (Former Employee)"?

We don't use LDAP at the moment, your info is interesting - I'll discuss setting up a former user group internally.

I edit their username with <username>[LEFT YYMMDD] (where YYMMDD is their leaving date) to indicate they are no longer current employees. I then deactivate them as a user so they no longer count towards the license user limit.

Good idea, at least then we'd have a record of when a person was de-activated as well as being able to see that they are de-activated. Thanks.
