Confluence upgrade and move

Mark Stocker March 7, 2012

We are on version 3.4 and it's running on a windows 2003 server and the DB is Postgre.

I want to move this to a new windows 2008 server with a SQL Server DB.

Where do I start? Is there a migration and upgrade path?

Suggestions welcome!

Thanks

Mark

It really depends on the size of your instance. If it's not too big it may be the easiest to make an xml backup of the old instance (admin section), make a clean install of the new version (hooked up to the new database) and import the data there.

Also, you'll want to have a look at the confluence upgrade notes. Maybe it's possible to skip a few version (if you want to upgrade to the newest version of confluence) or maybe you'll have to do several upgrades: http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Upgrade+Notes+Overview

Maybe it's best if you give us some more information (to which version do you want to upgrade to?, how big is your instance?, are there a lot of attachments?, etc.) so we may find the best solution for your needs.
