User mapping Jira and Confluence from one Active Directory domain to another

Tom Luong January 20, 2012

Jira 4.4.2 and Confluence 3.3.1 are currently integrated in my Microsoft AD. The current users will be migrating to a new Microsoft AD domain and will have new usernames.

The current Micosoft AD domain will be going away. How/what is the best path to map the users coming from the new AD domain? The users should be able access their original work using the new username.

Renaming users in both Confluence and JIRA are not supported but there are ways to do it.

If I were doing this I would

1. Map the new AD in and perform a sync so the new user names come over into both Confluence and JIRA. At this stage each user has duplicate accounts.

2. Schedule downtime and perform renaming of old usernames to new usernames in Confluence and JIRA using the scripts and procedures from links such as below

Wit some care and effort this is all possible but make sure you are doing this on a good test server and you double check that you have renamed everything correctly.
