Love Libby, I need to dust off my tagged books... I think I have way too many books on hold right now 🥲
-
@Anne Saunders - THANK YOU for that!
-
@Kristin Lyons - I used to live with a roommate who'd use my library card so she could borrow more than the limit for a single person. 🤣 The amazing part was that she'd actually read all the books she borrowed. 🤯
-
@ Hempel - any audiobook recommendations? Always looking for things to listen to!
-
@James Grahl - LOVE Libby! I've got a few unread books on Kindle left to read, then fully moving over to Libby.
-
@Barbara Szczesniak - I used to walk from my childhood home to our local library! For fun, I mapped it out online, and was surprised to see one way was 30 minutes, 1.3 mi / 2 km. "30 minutes" doesn't seem accurate. I'm pretty sure we covered the distance in 15-20 minutes... 🙃

🪧👀

@nancy_sidhu_allianz_com_au - thanks for mentioning Washington DC! You reminded me that I've been meaning to visit the MLK Jr. library there... which apparently has a slide. 🛝

Whoa, free learning resources? I'll have to check my library memberships to see if any offer any. 🤔
-
@Katie Lai - Seibert - thanks for posting, Katie! I LOVE libraries, and have always had a library membership since I was little. 📚 When I lived in New York City, I was able to register for the Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn library systems for free - so I had three times the luck when looking for books to borrow. 🙃

Thanks for commenting on this post! 🙌
-
@Brita Moorus - one aspect I love about having work friendships is running into these friends at conferences. Connections make the world go 'round!
-
@Carsten Severin _KUMAVISION AG_ - A few of my mentees have become lifelong friends - I can only hope more folks can be lucky enough to have this happen for themselves!
-
Social media is definitely an entertaining way to get insights into your coworkers, past and present. Even on LinkedIn! 🤣
-
@Anne Saunders - yeah, working at the same place isn't guaranteed friendship for me, but it does help provide the introduction! Love that you made that connection in your life! 🔗

The longer I work in this industry, the more I try to recruit (qualified) accomplices from past jobs into my current gigs. Having a built-in rapport with a past teammate, and an understanding of where they can help you is SO useful when faced with interesting IT challenges.

Love this, rituals like a monthly dinner are important! Speaking of rituals: I find birthdays to be the perfect reason to get together with former coworkers (the ones I count as friends, of course). 🙌
-
@Anne Saunders - that's awesome 🤣 @Jousef - agreed!
-
Love this! I have too many ex-coworkers to declare one as my favorite... 🤩
-
@Arkadiusz Wroblewski - I appreciate anyone who tries to reconnect with me, even if it's years later. That whole thing that happened in 2020 underscores how fleeting our relationships are, and how much work needs to be put into them to make them work.
-
@Matt Doar _Adaptavist_ - I love it when a past colleague reaches out to me for a referral, and I hated working with that person. Not that that happens much... (the reaching out, or the fact that I dislike working with certain people, you guess!) 🤣
-
@Natalie Beiler - YES! Literally working in the trenches often forges bonds beyond the workplace. 🔗 The time I spent working in physical offices gives me an appreciation for working in virtual one. 🙃

They run on tickets with one-line summaries, Confluence pages last touched eleven months ago, ownership nobody has updated since the last reorg, and the architectural decision that lives only in a staff engineer's head and one Slack thread from March. I felt this in my bones. COVID also exposed these organizational gaps -…

@Dia Bautista - hi Dia! Contact Atlassian's billing support team to understand where your user account might be associated, they'll get you sorted: https://www.atlassian.com/company/contact/purchasing-licensing

@Reiner - Whoa, that's awesome! I don't think I'm the godfather of anyone's kids. 😂 Nor would I recommend it, I'm too busy being the godfather of Jira sites.
-
Yes! That big event from 2020 definitely screwed with a number of my relationships - not just with past colleagues. 😭😂 This year has been fun, I got to reconnect with folks that I haven't talked to since 2019 🙌
-
@zoltanersek _outpostlabs_dev_ - YES! The earlier the job, the more friends (and better friends) that I am with the previous coworkers. Thankfully there are exceptions even in my recent jobs. I think that since my more recent jobs have been remote first or hybrid made it more of a challenge to make a social connection with…

@Reggie Taylor - what IdP are you using? If you're on Okta, try ensuring that user's SCIM user record is no longer being synced to Atlassian? https://support.atlassian.com/atlassian-cloud/kb/how-to-manage-account-sync-actions-in-atlassian-admin-hub/ If you break the SCIM link between the Atlassian account and the IdP…

@Arkadiusz Wroblewski - Beautiful shots! 📸 Turkiye has been on my travel list forever!
-
@snath - ever figure out how to do this? 🙏
