Hi Laura! I know @Robert Lauriston @Sharon Metzger and @Nancy Hutson Hale have some experience with this. Reminds me of this thread: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Answers-Developer-Questions/Documentation-PDF-export-a-la-Atlassian-s/qaq-p/486060 where Robert mentions they use https://itextpdf.com/en. Baybe this will…

@Sorcha, what are you looking to do with the Status macros? If you're looking to capture the current status of the page, like draft, review, complete, maybe check out the Comala Workflows app. It's great with this sort of thing.

Seems to be the same issue as here: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Confluence-questions/Started-To-Get-Left-Paddings-For-Tables-On-Confluence/qaq-p/1175208#U1175674

Ahhhh, I should have asked about Cloud. :) I'm sure there's a Jira issue somewhere for removing "wiki" from the URL somewhere, it's just not close enough to the back of the backlog yet.

@Paul K. I'm imagining you're looking at the internal use case, but in case you're looking to create an external, read-only, view of your Confluence, you could use the Scroll Viewport app. In Scroll Viewport, you can fully customize the URL used for the site.…

What is your use case for wanting to hide the page?

Hey @Laura Schneider I've been tech writing in Confluence for several years, and now I'm part of the K15t team. We make apps specifically for tech writers working in Confluence. The first thought that popped into my head was Rock the Docs. I worked with some other tech writers who work in Confluence to make this guide to…

That's great! I'd recommend you try out the app after Monday. Got a pretty big release hitting then. 🙂 Let me know if you need a hand with anything.

Hey @[deleted] and @[deleted] I love all the writing from Sarah Maddox on the subject, she's such an amazing thinker and nice person. I figured I'd chime in with a few additional suggestions to the great resources @Shannon S already shared. You could display your Confluence knowledge base space(s) as an online help center…

Hi @Sofia Martinez I love that you've already created an inclusions library; such a great technique for content reuse. Are you looking to see the images visually to see what's changed or do you just need a change log? If a simpler change log will work for you, you may be interested in the version reports in the Scroll…

This new guide on writing documentation in Confluence does a good job of explaining the benefits of using Confluence and how different technical writing techniques are performed: https://www.k15t.com/rock-the-docs.

Hey @Shawn in Van Maybe this is helpful: https://www.k15t.com/rock-the-docs/documentation-guide/content-reuse

I wanted to add this here. It's a guide for technical docs in Confluence: https://www.k15t.com/rock-the-docs

@L. Sheppard Well that's surprising. It looks like the heading formatting of the original content overrides the formatting on the Include macro. I can't believe it works that way, but it does. :( Well, a solution would be to remove the formatting from the original content and then only apply formatting to it when you…

Hi @Brandon Jackson 👋🏻, I'm so glad you found this page in the Confluence documentation. That's where I first started learning how to do documentation in Confluence. There's more to it then is laid out here, as you've seen. The place I'd start is by understanding the difference between page versions—which that Confluence…
-
@L. Sheppard you can totally do this, but in a limited way. Once you've added the Excerpt Include macro on page B, select the macro and apply standard text formatting from the toolbar, like heading style, bold, alignment etc. This will effect all included content, so if you make it bold, all content will be bold, etc. In…

On my last team, we used Jira to manage our doc process, since the rest of the team was using it for dev tasks. This was a good way to increase visibility for the team, but it didn't give the same kind of great Confluence visibility like with Comala.

@Eileen Palsson Here's a suggestion that might work for you: Create a Jira project for Documentation improvements; let's call it DOCIMPRV. Anyone can create an issue in DOCIMPRV when they see documentation that needs to be updated. Within the issue, they can link to any Confluence pages that need to be updated. Here's an…

@Eileen Palsson, happy to share. Maybe I'll post this again so you can mark it as an answer. (I love it when I can quickly find an answer to a question like this 🙌🏻) I think creating pages for each document is a good first step. I'd recommend you create the spaces you think you'll end up with, and then pages for the…

@Bill Bailey Love the use of "Cadillac" and "Chevy" here as well as the great use for Word. Well said. 😂

@Eileen Palsson, ah, I see what you mean. This makes sense. So here's a suggestion that might work for you: Create a Jira project for Documentation improvements; let's call it DOCIMPRV. Anyone can create an issue in DOCIMPRV when they see documentation that needs to be updated. Within the issue, they can link to any…

Hi @Eileen Palsson, what a great question. I moved from DITA to Confluence in my last gig, and the change was profoundly positive. You've got the right idea for sure. :) So to answer your questions, I have a few different thoughts: Task Management To first address task management, I think Jira might be the tool of choice.…
