Sounds like changes you not only experienced but a ton you’ve watched and influenced with your clients, @Craig Nodwell. I mean, transitioning to digital even a couple of years ago might seem late for some, but it’s the reality of so many and those of us who have transitioned already can still learn from that journey. I’d…

@Craig Nodwell - sounds like you’ve got a wealth of experience to share with us! Anything you’re specifically hoping to see come to this group—AMA topics, types of discussions, types of experiment insights, etc?

I agree with folks that missing deadlines probably has to do with communication or expectations about those deadlines, so uncovering the why is most important. And if the team wants to play hard, they can still do that while hitting those deadlines. In fact, the motto can be "Work hard, celebrate-in-the-form-of-play hard."…

For me, the short answer to forming project teams quickly is a) group alignment of the project's purpose and b) an understanding of each person's role as it relates to that shared purpose. Also, I find that "the more general the goal is + the less documented or shared out the roles and responsibilities are," then "the less…

I love this! And I love how @Michael Kimathi _AC Nairobi_ Kenya_ highlights their role as a leader as one who nurtures their members--a leader as someone who listens and responds to members. It's refreshing to hear Michael champion member engagement as the way to growth, as opposed to example, leading by being the star of…

Thanks to all who were able to make it out to the AMA! In case you want to rewatch the conversation or pass it along to teammates, you can view the video, transcript, and chat here. It will be available to download to the next couple of months.

Here are clear views, literally and metaphorically, in your final asset, @Linda Paulson! I like how the clouds move slowly so as not to overwhelm. For the moving gif magic, please click here. (FYI - the link expires in three months).

Hi, @Craig Castle-Mead yes for sure we'll record :) If you RSVP (even though you won't attend) you'll get the recording automatically in a follow-up email or you can ping for it when the time comes and I can send you the link via email :)

Your vibe felt clean workstations and so I'm pumped that yours turned out with minimalist energy. Here ya go, @Bridget! For the moving gif magic, please click here. (FYI - the link expires in three months).

Gah, it is July 26th. Thank you for that catch that I’ve now corrected, @Jimmy Seddon !
-
Totally. And work/life bleed isn't just inevitable, it helps us with perspective. Look how much a single "from the outside" book's introduction to the workplace or the knowledge of a son impacted the innies and how much that influenced their decision-making.

I like that in the gif, there are two bikers to show that you've got camaraderie vibes + that the bikers go over little bumps but keep running forward smoothly.

Why do companies offer senseless perks (finger traps? waffle parties?) when really what employees want is autonomy and freedom? I mean, time and place for those kinds of perks. And certainly they shouldn't be the ONLY positive reinforcement for good work. Seems like that's all they were working for. Well, also avoiding the…

Some questions I already have: * I know work tension can show up in our bodies. How do we know where it might be held and how might we use that information to signal that we might not be comfortable in work situations? * Are there postures, stretches, or things I can do while sitting or standing at a desk to improve focus…

On that second point, the idea of a separate "work self" and "home self" was a gamechanger. * I've not seen such a literal interpretation of this idea. The show demonstrated, that not only will the work self miss out on having a fuller work experience with their non-work self integrated, but that their non-work self…

Example comment This person's side profile was merged with the idea of "space." So, the resulting image and gif are two options of depicting how they like to see themselves working as though no one else is around and they are free to create in open space. Here is the still image. And for a slightly different take, click…

Big fan of a Project Kickoff here! If it's possible, I highly recommend the team (vs just the driver) producing elements of a project plan during the kickoff. It's not often that teams prioritizes developing project goals, milestones, success metrics, workstreams, etc as a team. But when that happens, there's often more…

The suggestions are what make change happen. Yeah!

Yeah, I found it funny, too! And making sure a customer doesn't feel alone is a great north star on how to tailor your message for them. Like a few others helped me realize in this thread, the OOO message isn't just a message to explain your situation; it's a message to also help those who receive it move on their way.
-
For #2, it's interesting to include understanding of why the teammate said their words. I think that's actually helpful because it might make the other person more open to understanding how it made you feel (#1). Shared understanding of each other.
-
Same with me!
-
YES! 1000 points for this detailed message sample, @Daniel Eads! To your point on extended time away, knowing that a) work won't stop via diverted and named channels and b) helping the OOO person for their return is a win on both ends of that email. It's a great reminder that OOO emails aren't just a note of being gone.…
-
For sure. From the recipient side, keeping the flow of work going even while you're out is key.
-
Yes, I agree! I think there are pros and cons on both side so really any side is worthy. But I don't often think through all the many reasons why connecting would be beneficial. The debate I least think about but appreciate? Normally, I think of social media as interactions just on social media, but there's a benefit of…
-
Ohhh, that makes a lot of sense, @Anne Saunders! I was thinking the difference would be tone but that makes so much sense that there are different messages to direct those audiences with.
-
GMail has it, too! But I usually don't customize my OOO messages that way and now I want to try it. Have you used the internal vs external functionality, @Anne Saunders ?
-
Didn't notice the translator on mobile but I see it on desktop for sure, @Fabio Genovese! After reading the article, I think it makes sense! I didn't fully understand the premise until reading the whole thing, but I get it. And you're right that you can create those mini environments without add-ons.
