Depends on how you define "Atlassian" . Is it the continuous improvement angle, because if so, keep fueling my tank with that! A couple gems to share on that note: * This gentleman "ran his kids like an Atlassian team." * Many are on the wedding plan with Trello train. For what it's worth, I've used Trello to plan a…

Hi @Anita Kalmane - IST is Indian Standard Time. I'm not sure it's going to be a good time for Europe so far. This event, for example, will be at 1am in Spain and Germany. But, we'll record it and repost! And if you submit a question here, there's a good chance Dr. Dom will answer it in the event.

What if it were a doctor for work health ;)

I haven't seen the "personal goals" in weekly team planning. That sounds pretty neat actually! Not only holds each other accountable, but first and foremost it brings people together on a more personal level. We're more than just the titles next to our names. I love it!
-
I second this! Remote workers should have the same seat at the table (with the same sized rectangle on a screen haha).
-
We can all say meetings need to have purpose and stay on track and engage the full attendees, but it doesn't always happen as you mention @Suvradip Paul. Guidance for teams on how to run meetings is essential, so I think it's a good idea (as you alluded to) for companies to make those norms a priority. Also, I think…

Love this. I do think Annual Planning is a legacy practice and that it can use updating. You're not alone. At Atlassian, we're beginning a new process that's closer to rolling planning. It's still early days but I can report back once we have more quarters to see how this change is going. Curious is anyone else out there…
-
Absolutely, @Huwen Arnone _Deiser_Devoteam_ . We're big DACI fans here. But even knowing who should be a contributor vs an approver on specific workstreams can be a bit confusing because everyone wants to be an approver when it comes to planning hahah. But yes, we definitely document clear roles or else decision-making can…
-
This. This^! Annual planning is not a replacement for updating plans as you go along. We should make laptop decals with this haha.
-
Not what you're asking for, but I would hope a good leader empowers an autonomous team and vice versa. Both can feed each other.
-
Absolutely. And what a benefit that is, to be able to trust the company you work for so that you changes don't have to take up the majority of your energy. But even still, the anticipation of inevitable changes can take a toll as well. Hopefully your company is also trying to ease that anxiety with overcommunicating…

Hi @Suvradip Paul - that's correct, that is @ 00:00 in BST. And thank you for your question submission! I'll add it to the list!
-
Wow. Truly was part of the culture then. Very cool!
-
Ah, I actually think those past efforts are great! I wonder if they helped even if not enough.
-
You mention best practices for meeting invites and standards, which I think are known quantities, but most companies don't actually use those standards. Curious, @Hana Kučerová - how did you come to see that practice adopted across your company? Was it just something culturally expected and so everyone did it? Or something…
-
Hi @Kishan Sharma - such a relevant question for these days! As I mentioned in another reply above, low morale is amplified these days due to the state of societal and personal life circumstances. That said, Atlassian has used this Work Life Impact Play to help facilitate conversations for teammates. It helps a team know…

For what it's worth, @Anita Kalmane, our senior researcher, Dr. @Mahreen Khan is leading "state of teams" research (we'll be publishing them every quarter starting later this year). And within that research, we're seeing... 23% of US workers who say they're burned out and 30% of US workers who worked at an office are burnt…

I also have work blocks on my calendar for reviewing this stuff. Because, organizing emails and reviewing notifs takes time that (I think) workers should take into account.
-
It's a dangerous game to filter things to trash. But you know what? I know so many people that do that!
-
Even though not in a guide, your notes in this comment section are helpful! Filtering out usernames and actually using the filters are not common practice and I agree that they're very helpful. And for the German speakers out there, maybe they can contact you for that guide ;)

Like @Natalie said, absolutely do not feel guilty! According to "Quiet" by Susan Cain, half the world is introverted :) I too am an extreme introvert. Funny story: I once took a personality test as part of a work retreat. My introversion/extroversion score did not print on my results sheet, so I asked the facilitator for…

@Bridget I think that scaling teams in size is so tricky; I'm so glad yours scaled without losing intimacy. Often, I hear that personal engagement is one of the first rituals to go once teams get to a certain size, which means messages and activities address the entire group as opposed to spotlighting individuals. Well…
-
Yep, @John Funk. For those companies (including yours) that believe they are best in-person, I cannot deny that there are aspects to communication that cannot be replicated remotely. Curious: did your company work outside of the office during the beginning of the pandemic? Or are there any remote team members? Curious how…

I don't know if you're thinking this, too, @Dave LIAO , but focusing on what you can change is such a healthy attitude. Sometimes, I get bummed about how much needs to happen, and in turn, I get overwhelmed trying to control everything. But the fact of the matter is that we can literally only change what we can influence.…

Dear @Daniel Ebers , The most important thing I want you to know, is that I your drawing. The circle encloses the team but that separation is real. And the size of the distant team member really makes me resonate with that teammate more than the group that's collocated. Am I overanalyzing your picture? Perhaps. Does that…
-
Dear @Alexander Pappert It sounds like your admin role has prepared you for content consumption and organization in a way that may not come naturally to others. So first off: congratulations. In my experience, many people don't have rituals for themselves that allow them to manage the many sources of new information thrown…

Hi, @Victor Kenneth I'm glad you're thinking about how best to appreciate and engage with your team. That's paramount for retention and limiting burnout. As far as compensation goes, that can mean a wide range of things. * Some people are incentivized by money, which I know your startup may not have yet. * Others…
-
It's so simple, but setting rules of engagement for how teams should communicate with each other is paramount for effective teamwork. * Does everyone provide updates through software at a certain time each day/week? * For quick questions, is it best to ping via chat tools or send an email? Or is setting up a meeting for…

I looooove this line, @John Funk. I don't think there is a good way to measure or a commitment to measure whether you actually stuck to your planning from the previous year. Accountability is such a common miss. In the spirit of an iterative approach, using something like OKRs can help steer plans in different directions…

I read about the Pixar story from the book, "Creativity, Inc." One of the things that stuck with me was the desire to "protect the new." That all if all the regular company practices were so ingrained in the culture, those things would naturally continue. But the new things, those are the things that are at risk of not…
