A few years ago, I didn't even know what Atlassian was. Today, I'm one step away from putting its logo on my house—because behind everything from home projects and finances to travel, festivals, and everyday life, there's probably a Jira work item, Confluence page, or Trello board keeping things running. 😄
How it all started
Once upon a time… Actually, no… it was not that long ago; I came to the idea to start using Atlassian apps for my personal needs as well. It all started with, of course, Jira. I needed a place to track tasks related to buying real estate. Then I started using Confluence for documentation, then JPD for ideas… and a couple of years later, a lot of aspects of my life are ‘Powered by Atlassian’ 😃
In this series, you’re welcome to explore how I use Atlassian at home and in private life.
I really hope you won’t judge me too much by the end of each article, but I’m open to any feedback that you might have about any topic 🙂
One small disclaimer: this setup is constantly evolving. 😄
What you’ll see throughout this series is a snapshot of how I organize things right now. In fact, I’ve already restructured a couple of things while writing these articles. 😅
So think of it as a living ecosystem rather than a finished blueprint.
Why different apps handle different jobs
Not every app can cover every requirement. That’s why I am currently using Jira, Confluence, JPD, Trello, Projects, Goals and Rovo (mainly MCP connector) in my day-to-day life. Some of those are connected via automation or other integrations. Below you can see an overview of ‘which app is used for what’
Need | App | Role in the personal ecosystem |
|---|
Home DIY projects, maintenance, finance details | Jira | Track structured work, records, workflows, and dashboards. |
Planning and structuring travel and wrap-up one-pagers | Confluence | Organize research, decisions, links, and collaborative plans. |
Festivals, trips, and flexible checklists *new, trip planning checklist | Trello | Provide a lightweight, visual planning board and checklist. |
Ideas and prioritization | Jira Product Discovery | Capture, compare, and shape ideas. Compare when something is bought and how much it cost at the time of buying. |
Bigger ambitions and the projects behind them | Projects & Goals | Track progress on goals like investing and paying off my home loan, alongside updates on the projects that support them. |
Natural-language assistance | Rovo / MCP | Search, summarize, create, and update across apps (Jira, Confluence & Trello) |

A little sneak peek at what's coming! 🫣 I'll be publishing new articles throughout next couple of weeks and months. Some stories are already available, while others will gradually appear here as the series unfolds.
Where to start
So, let's start with this one! Published back in 2024, it's a great starting point for the series, taking you from initial ideas to turning them into something real. 😄
Series Roadmap — a preview
And here’s what’s coming next! A little preview of where the series is heading, with the stories, screenshots, and Loom walkthroughs coming in each article.

Bonus reading — one more JPD experiment
This is an additional, already-published article, not a chapter in the main Atlassian at Home storyline. I still thought it would be fun to include it alongside the series. 📽️
One ecosystem, connected stories
Although each app has its own role, some stories naturally cross product boundaries. My loan repayment, for example, is tracked as an outcome in Goals, while the detailed payments live in Jira. Automation, integrations, and Rovo/MCP act as the glue between everything—but I try not to connect things just because I can. Although that can sometimes be difficult to resist. 😄
And it keeps evolving
Putting this series together made me realize just how much this little personal setup has grown over time — and it’s definitely not finished yet. I’ve already changed and restructured parts of it while writing these articles. 😅
That’s probably part of the fun: trying something, seeing whether it actually helps, and changing it when something better comes along.
Some of the ideas in this series were also inspired by other Community members, so I’m curious: what slightly unusual things are you using Atlassian apps for outside of work?
