New usage base fees not likely to go over well I assume with some customers

I have at lest two novice JSM clients who use lot of automation that likely are NOT aware of the new fees

@William Gunkel the reaction will depend on whether anyone looks at the meter before 3 December, which is when extra usage billing takes effect according to Atlassian’s usage page. For the two clients you mention, four things done in an hour each will decide whether this is a non-event or a surprise invoice:

* Read the meter now. Atlassian Administration > Usage > Meters > Automation steps shows the organisation’s pooled allowance and current consumption. A client who is under the pooled number every month pays nothing new; a client who is over will have been over for a while without noticing.
* Find the rules that spend it. In Jira, Settings > System > Global automation > Usage ranks flows by steps. In my experience the top three flows account for most of the usage, and they are usually scheduled rules with a JQL that matches too much, or branches over many related work items. A step is “a single executed part of an automation flow”, so a branch over fifty issues costs fifty times its inner actions on every run.
* Decide the overrun policy on purpose. With extra usage enabled, flows keep running and the overage is billed at the published per-1,000-steps rate; with it disabled, “your automation flows will stop running until usage resets”. For a service desk, a stopped SLA or assignment rule is worse than a small bill, so this is a conversation to have with the client, not a default to inherit.
* Make sure the right people get the alerts. Organisation and billing admins receive notifications at 80 and 100 percent. If the billing admin is a finance mailbox nobody reads, the 80 percent warning goes nowhere.
