Has anyone else noticed the increasing amount of spam appearing in the Atlassian Community forums?
I'm referring to posts that have absolutely nothing to do with Atlassian products or the purpose of this community. Questions about cancelling Hulu subscriptions, paying utility bills, withdrawing cryptocurrency, and contacting customer support for unrelated services are appearing under Jira, often multiple times within minutes.
Some posts contain nothing but repeated phone numbers and meaningless text. Others are clearly duplicated, misleading, or not genuine questions at all.
This is more than just a few irrelevant posts. When this happens repeatedly, it clutters the forums, makes genuine questions harder to find, and takes attention away from the discussions that actually matter to the community.
Personally, I've had to disable my email notifications because my inbox was becoming flooded with notifications about this kind of content. That's frustrating, because I don't want to miss legitimate questions or interesting discussions from other community members.
My question is: what is being done to address this problem?
Are there measures in place to detect and remove these posts before they flood the forums? And is there a way to improve spam prevention so that community members don't have to choose between receiving useful notifications and avoiding spam?
I understand that keeping a large community clean is not easy, and some spam will inevitably get through. However, when this volume of obviously unrelated content appears repeatedly, I think it's worth discussing whether the current approach is sufficient.
The Atlassian Community is a valuable place to share knowledge, solve problems, and help other users. It would be a shame if genuine participation became harder simply because the forums were overwhelmed by spam.
Has anyone else experienced this? I'd be interested to hear how other community members feel about it and whether there are any ongoing efforts to tackle the issue.
