FISHEYE_INST/tmp/var directory

Our security folks have asked that we remove the following file from our fisheye installation:

/opt/atlassian/fisheye/tmp/var/osgi-cache/felix/felix-cache/bundle78/version0.0/stp-3.0.17_1422373054000.jar-embedded/META-INF/lib/struts-core-1.3.8.jar

Can we remove the tmp/var (not var/tmp) directory under the fisheye installation folder??

What is it used for?

What is the difference between tmp/var and  var/tmp ?

Hello @Charles Meiburg,

The FISHEYE_INST/tmp directory, as per the name suggests, is a temporary directory used by Fisheye to store raw files such as:

• intermediate data store
• diff text before it is indexed
• content before it is indexed
• plugin system for web resources tmp storage
• precompiled JSP classes
• the web-app tmp dir too

It is populated by Fisheye itself, as well as by plugins and Jetty web server, and are used by repository scanners, diff text indexers, Jetty and the plugin system.

It is safe to delete this directory when Fisheye is not running, and Fisheye will recreate the temporary files it needs upon restart.
