Disable emoticons in JIRA Service Desk

Hi All,


Before upgrading to 3.4.0, I was able to disable emoticons in JSD by commenting out the following part in "\atlassian-jira\WEB-INF\classes\system-renderercomponentfactories-plugin.xml"

This doesn't work anymore. I make the change again, restart JIRA, but this doesn't disable emoticons. Is there a new way to work around this?

I was able to suppress emoticons in JSD by changing the renderer for the text fields like "Description" from Wiki style renderer to the Default text renderer. I used these docs:
