The answer is: "No". However, there is an improvement request in Bamboo tracker: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/BAM-12315 - I think you should vote on that issue and add yourself as a watcher. After all it's not an uncommon feature I'd say.

In fact when you use Bamboo to work on remote computer that all have the same configuration, using the variables to just tell which computer to use is REALLY usefull.
