Do Basic Rovo Agents Really Exist?

Question

According to Atlassian's documentation, Rovo's basic agents use only 10 credits. These are the ones that don't have model selection.

In practice, I can't seem to identify a basic agent, because no matter how basic it may seem to me, it uses many more credits 😥

Can you give me a specific example of what a basic agent would look like? If they actually exist😇

Yes! 😄 Reasoning settings can matter more than how simple the agent is. In Rovo Studio → Agents → Details → Reasoning, select Quick answers. A simple agent that answers questions from a Confluence space using Quick answers should qualify as Basic (10 credits per invocation).

If usage remains high, take a look at the usage CSV in Atlassian Administration → Insights → Platform usage → Rovo credits. You might also want to check whether your agents are configured with Quick answers. That should reduce your usage.

Arek's Quick answers tip is the right setting. The other thing to know is how the credits are counted. The 10 credits are per billable event, and Atlassian's usage page says that in chat each user message is a billable event. So a five-message conversation with a basic agent comes to around 50 credits, not 10.

Agents with model selection, Rovo Chat in Think deeper mode and agents used in Jira all sit in the variable row on that page, so they can cost more than 10 per message even when the agent itself is simple. In the CSV export each row shows the agent and the credits, which tells you whether an agent is billing 10 per message or more.
