Urgent Request for Board Administration Access

Question

Hello,

In 2025, I took over a position at my company from a previous manager who used Trello extensively. Since I am familiar with and appreciate the platform, I decided to continue using it.

However, all boards and administrative access appear to have been associated with the previous manager's personal account (or at least an account that I no longer have administrative control over). Over time, and possibly due to a configuration or permission change, I have completely lost the ability to manage the board and its settings.

I urgently need to regain full access to the board and become its administrator so that I can continue managing our team's activities and projects without interruption.

Could you please assist me in recovering access and transferring the administrative rights to my account? If any proof of company ownership or authorization is required, I will be happy to provide it.

One more important thing: This is a public forum, so I'd strongly recommend editing your original question to remove your personal contact information (email address and phone number), in accordance with the Community Forums Guidelines.

Apart from that, the guys are right — it's a bit tricky to get access to that board. Try following instructions and checking official KB articles as they pointed out. If nothing works, please report back here and I'll try to check with forum support if they can help out.

I’d recommend contacting Atlassian Support directly so they can review your situation and advise on the options for recovering board admin access.

Include the board URL and explain that the previous manager’s account holds the admin rights. You can also mention that you’re able to provide proof of company authorization if needed. Please share those details privately with the Support team so they can assist you.

Hi Paulo,

Community members can't change board permissions, and Atlassian Support won't change admins either. Their help article says that for security reasons they're unable to modify the administrators of a Workspace. So the fix has to come from your side. In rough order of effort:

* Ask the previous manager, if you can still reach them. They open the board, select Share, and change your role to Admin.
* Check whether anyone else is an admin of the board or its Workspace (look for the admin indicator on member avatars). Any admin can promote you the same way.
* If the previous manager's Trello account used a company email address, your email administrator can give you access to that mailbox. Then reset the Trello password, log in as that account, make yourself admin of the boards, and remove the old account.
* If the board belongs to a Workspace where you're a Workspace admin: on paid Workspaces (Standard or Premium), Workspace admins can make someone a board admin, so upgrading the Workspace gives you a way in.
* If none of that works, start clean. Create a Workspace you control, copy or move the boards you have rights to into it, and this time add at least two admins.
