When you're steering strategy across a large organization, you shouldn't have to dig to find your work. You might be checking on a focus area, moving between organizations, or picking up something you looked at yesterday. Starting today, we have begun rolling out a redesigned left navigation in Focus that gets you there in fewer clicks.
What's new
Browse your hierarchy right from the sidebar
Focus areas and organizations now expand in the left navigation. Open a section to see the items underneath it, then keep drilling into child focus areas or organizations without going back to a directory page. The list updates as you work. When you create, delete, star or reorganize items, the sidebar reflects it right away. Also, a simple “+” in the sidebar lets you create a new Focus Area or Organization from wherever you are directly from the left navigation.
Recent, Starred and Following, one click away
Recent, Starred and Following now expand into quick flyouts, so you never leave the page you're on.
- Recent shows what you've been looking at, grouped by time (today, this month, more than a month ago). If you use Jira and Confluence, you'll recognize the layout. You can also filter by date!
- Starred and Following list the items you've pinned or subscribed to.
- Every flyout has a View all link at the bottom that takes you to the full list. Speaking of View all…we now have a consolidated experience across all three "View All" pages.
Make the sidebar your own
You can still arrange the Focus sidebar to fit the way you work. Choose which items appear, put them in the order you want, and move anything you don't need out of view. Your changes apply only to you.
Why we made these changes
You told us that switching between what you're working on, what you've starred and what you're following took too many clicks. That got worse as Focus grew beyond focus areas to include organizations and more. We wanted to make the paths you use every day shorter. We also wanted Focus to follow the same navigation patterns you already know from the rest of Atlassian (including keeping the Create button at the top of the page), so there's less to relearn when you switch apps.
Getting started
You don't need to set anything up. The new navigation appears automatically in Focus. To try it:
- Open Focus and select the arrow next to Focus areas or Organizations to expand the list.
- Select Recent, Starred or Following to open the flyout.
- To change what's in your lefthand sidebar, select More, then select Customize sidebar.
We'd love to hear what you think!
