Paragraph fields in JPD

I am trying to incorporate Paragraph fields in JPD to track roadmap details. For example, we'd like to include Opportunity, Note, and Product Goal fields within each "Idea" (see below). These tend to be longer that 255 characters, hence the need for Paragraphs.

However, my Jira/JPD admin is telling me that no such option exists in JPD. Is this correct? If so, is there a workaround to do something like this?

Your admin is right - JPD does not have a Paragraph or multi-line text field type. Its text fields are single line with a 255 character limit, so longer notes will get cut off. The usual workaround is to put the longer detail in the Idea's description field, which is rich text and has no such limit, and use the short text fields only for summaries in the matrix view. Some teams also link the Idea to a Confluence page when the notes are very long.

I asked Rovo for giggles - it said "no" - JPD is designed to be brief - and to the point. So it was designed with that in mind.

Also global fields won't bypass this limitation.

It did suggest however the following work around's:

Put it in the Description (Idea Description)

Use "Idea Template's" https://support.atlassian.com/jira-product-discovery/docs/use-templates-for-your-idea-description/

To configure - Space Settings → Templates (be advised you need to be a Space Admin)

Learned something new (and an another reason to loathe JPD - not a fan 🤣)

Surely there is a need to have multiple paragraph fields. Consolidating everything into the Description field really limits our ability to easily examine different (but related) information. I honestly don't see a good reason not to have that kind of flexibility. I also can't imagine this would be difficult to implement.

I'm probably shouting into the void, but is there anyway to request such an upgrade? I'd love to get away from using Miro or Google Sheets for our roadmapping efforts.

Id suggest seeing if templates fits the bill - but you may hit that char limit anyway.

JPD Wasn't designed to store the amount of information you are pushing into it - its meant to be a "post-it-note" roadmap/planner/brainstorm platform.

You would be better off using Jira itself - or Confluence to store the information and linking it back that point (A reference to Insights was made but not sure if that applies when Rovo explained things to me)

You could try to submit a feature request - but it will likely sit there as it goes against JPD's foundational design based on what I'm seeing.
